To be diagnosed with ADHD, the symptoms should be present before the age of 12, and have lasted six months, and interfere with daily life activities. These must be present in multiple settings (i.e., at home and school or school and after-school activities). It can have significant consequences, including social interactions, increased risky behaviors, loss of jobs, and impact on performance at school.
Early diagnosis and treatment of ADHD are important to prevent symptoms from affecting adulthood and causing additional issues. While ADHD is not a learning disability, its symptoms can make learning difficult. Treatment, which may include behavioral therapy, medication, or both, depends on the type of ADHD.
At Soundmind Holistic Psychiatry, we provide evaluations and personalized treatment plans to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
